When is the right time to start something new, change something significant or take a risk?
It’s today.
Not when you get back from your business trip. Nor when you have completed training the new person you hired. And not when your cashflow is pumping.
The problem is, that when you get back from your business trip, you might find you’ve lost a big client. And once your new recruit is up and running, you might land a massive project that takes up a lot of your time. There will always be another reason to hold off.
There’s no time like the present. Stop procrastinating, and take the first step!
There are two ways to go about it. Adopt the one that suits your personality and way you perceive risk and motivate yourself to move forward.
Baby steps
For the risk averse, one of the biggest hurdles to taking that first step is that the end goal often seems insurmountable. At the point before you take the first step, you are as far away as you will ever be from achieving your goal. It’s a daunting task, and you question if it’s worth it, and if it is achievable. That first step seems to be a giant leap. The fear is too much, so you find reasons – let’s call a spade a spade… EXCUSES – that it’s not the right time.
You’ve got to crawl, before you walk, before you run… but the point is that you need to start moving in the right direction. And soon momentum and confidence will build and you will be running! But that won’t happen if you sit on your butt. Take a baby step. Then another. And another.
Take the plunge
When you dive into the deep end, it’s sink or swim time. There’s nothing like a bit of pressure to get you to perform at your peak. When the stakes are so high that failure is not an option, you will be amazed at what you can achieve.
Baby birds get kicked out the nest and learn to fly on the way. You often don’t understand your potential until you are forced to bring it to the fore.
So, whether you are contemplating hiring more employees or expanding your business into other geographical regions… If you are wondering when it’s the right time to diversify your product offering, or enter into a joint venture partnership… Or perhaps you are simply trying to sort things out in your business… now is the right time to make it happen.
As a business coach, I can hold your hand as you take your first baby steps, I can advise you as you take the plunge into the deep end and I can help you fly to heights you never dreamed possible.
The right time is now.
