Would You Pass or Fail Your Business Exam?

Its exam season in our household. I can’t help but admire the dedication, commitment and diligence displayed by our teenage daughter who is working her butt off to achieve her academic goals.

In solidarity, I am also putting my head down to complete a continued education course.

Just because you’ve completed your formal education doesn’t mean you have finished learning. If you aren’t learning, you aren’t growing.  And when you aren’t growing you are dying.

My daughter’s year-end exams are an assessment of what she has learned this year. They are forcing her to apply her learnings in different contexts.  You may not have a year-end business exam but that doesn’t stop you from applying your learnings

What have you learned? What knowledge did you gain this year? And more importantly, how have you used this knowledge to grow or improve your business and leadership skills?

What books have you read? What podcasts, seminars, videos, webinars did you listen to? What training courses did you complete?

What did you learn from them? Have you implemented new tools or techniques? Changed the way you do and approach things? Changed the way you think and, behave? Or was it just a waste of time?

Who did you meet this year who inspired you? What did they teach you? What insights did you gain from the people you admire? Are you using this knowledge for your own benefit?

What did leadership/competency / personality/peer assessments you complete this year? What did you learn about yourself and have you changed anything to address your blind spots and shortcomings?

What mistakes did you make this year? What learnings did you gain from them? What have you done to ensure that you don’t make the same mistakes again?

What goals did you set for yourself this year? Did you make the grade? Pass or fail?

What will your report card say at the end of the year?
